Mike truly was one of a kind -- a competitive and skilled athlete, a bright student who became a N.Y. lawyer and someone who sought to make Jewish and non-Jewish friends.
Some things I remember about Mike: In what I believe was our 11th grade gym class, we all lined up for the start of the 600-yard run and walk. Mike put himself at the front of the pack and sprinted ahead of everyone else for what I believe was the first 100 yards of the race. He maintained the lead and finished first. I remember trying to catch him, but could not do so.
I also recall that Mike was a starter on the varsity football team and played defensive back.
Further, Mike would chide some of his Jewish friends for not mingling with all of their classmates. He went of his way to know and to be friendly with most everyone.
I will miss him. He was a fun and good guy.

I am really sorry to learn of Mike's passing. I remember him clearly from our times together in high school. That guy could always make me laugh. He was nutty fun, always full of energy and crazy stunts. Didn't he have a Jewish star on the front of his football helmit? That made me laugh, too. Sad that he is gone.

It is with great sadness that we have lost Mike the "Mouse" Mendelson. Mike was a positive spirit with a quick smile. He was a good sport, good friend and a success in life. He did exceedingly well as a lawyer in the Big Apple where lawyering is a blood sport. I think that Mike lived life well and I sincerely hope he enjoyed his successes. So glad to have known him.
